About This Website

The Hokkaido Cycling Routes website aims to provide information, with user participation, about roads, nearby facilities and weather along cycling routes, and to promote communication among cyclists.

We hope that the participation of many cyclists will contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of cycling routes, and that cyclists and communities will work together to make Hokkaido a world-class cycling destination.

○Information-provision features

Road and weather information
We will offer information about cycling routes, such as distances, elevation changes and signage. This will be added to and updated regularly. Cyclists can use GPS to find their locations on a map. Weather information along the routes is provided by the OpenWeatherMap online service.
Facility information
The map will show the locations and outlines of facilities near cycling routes, such as restrooms, rest areas, sightseeing facilities, scenic spots, spots for changing flat tires and making other repairs, accommodations and delivery services. We’re also planning to provide information about cycling events and emergency contacts. (Facility information that is posted on this website may not be current. Please contact each facility for updated details.)

○Interaction with other users

Through this website, we intend to establish a “plan–do–check–act” (PDCA) system by having cyclists evaluate each cycling route, write specific comments on their impressions and suggestions for improvements, and give feedback to local communities, such as to the administrators of roads and rest areas. Through gradual but ongoing improvement, we will enhance the quality and attractiveness of cycle tourism in Hokkaido.
